This page just has a few more things which you may be interested in on your visit to Edinburgh. Again, there is so much more than can be mentioned on these pages, but these highlights should give you an idea of where to start your journey.

SCENERY

Edinburgh, being the historical city that it is, has plenty of monuments, etc, to catch your eye, but there are other sites as well that you may not have thought about.

Arthur's Seat - Located high above the city, this mountain top rocky outcrop gives you unsurpassed views of the city, and though it's a tough walk getting to the summit, the experience once you get there is definitely worth it. Just make sure you choose a clear day to go there.

Portobello Beach - A lot of visitors to Edinburgh fail to notice this beach, which stretches for miles, and has a lovely, wide, cobblestone pavement. The typical beachside vendors can all be found here as well, including the traditional ice cream van!

Princes St. Gardens - Located in the heart of the city, these gardens form a strip that runs along the side of Princes St. The landscaping is meticulous and the grounds are kept beautiful all year round. There are often events held here also.

THE FESTIVAL

Held each August, the Edinburgh festival is a huge event attracting vistors from all over the world. There actually used to be three seperate festivals, but they have now been combined into one. There are shows running daily all over the city during the festival, and street performers can be seen everywhere. The festival culminates with the military tattoo, a must see for fans of the bagpipes, as a larger pipe band is hardly ever seen.

SHOPPING

Waverley Shopping Centre - A fairly new building, this shopping centre is located on Princes St., with entrances also available from Waverley Train Station. There are some unique shops in here as well as the typical mall shops which can be found everywhere. The architecture is quite breathtaking, and it's definitely worth a visit.

Ingliston Sunday Market - This enormous market makes a great sunday outing. Located near Edinburgh airport it is an absolutely huge site, with an enormous variety of stalls. It also features a 50 foot gorilla in the centre for lost children to go to so they can be easily found.
